Move over Google glass, the future of electronic eyewear is here. The new Recon Jet smart sports eyewear is simply amazing. Finally a truly wearable computer has arrived, running an Android OS; this little monster sports a 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 1 GB SDRAM, and 8 gigs of flash memory. Weighing in at less than 86 grams, the amount of internal sensors and the fact it has a front facing point of view camera to capture pictures and video, should be enough to make your head spin.
Unlike Google glass, the Recon Jet is not only a standalone system, it can connect via Bluetooth, ANT, or Wi- Fi, to any number of devices and the software developer kit promises to help improve and expand the potential of these amazing sports glasses. In fact, Recon also has already released a sports nutrition app to help fight dehydration and fatigue as well as other issues. Designed by scientist/athletes, the recon jet has been tailor made for the physically minded. Internally, it holds an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a magnetometer, a pressure sensor, and an infrared sensor; so it can literally keep track of your every movement!
While prescription glasses aren’t available yet, Recon Instruments invites us to check back soon for that option. In fact, with built in dual headphones and microphone, all one would need to do was connect to a cell phone and give them a call. The technology itself may not be as futuristic, normal mini speakers instead of bone conduction audio transducers, but what they lack in super high tech they more than make up for in functionality. Formed in 2008, Recon Instruments have made huge strides into Heads up display technology in only 7 years, and by offering these awesome glasses for less than half the price of Google glass, you can bet that this company is going to be bringing us more impressive glasses in the future.
